Public Speaking Classes
Three one-to-one private classes of 30 minutes each are included in the package. The classes with Sophie allow students to gain feedback, practise, develop skills and build confidence.
It’s most effective to start the online course to learn the theory and skills, then begin classes midway, or towards course completion. It may be beneficial for some students to join the classes immediately, for example, if they have an upcoming talk at school and have a limited timeframe.
You can book the classes with Sophie once you purchase the course, arranging a mutually convenient time and date. There is no need to book the full three sessions in one go. Instead, you can book each session when ready, as long as the three classes are used within a year of purchasing the online course. Please contact Sophie to arrange the classes.

The online course covers public speaking theory, including critical verbal (talk content) and nonverbal (talk delivery) components. The verbal component includes selecting and fine-tuning a talk topic, storytelling, planning, writing and memorising talk content, and audience engagement. The nonverbal component focuses on effective delivery, including delivery style, vocal power, body language, showing confidence and emotion.
The course provides practical solutions to prevent and manage nervousness and the oh-so-common fear of public speaking. Slide presentations aren't encouraged; however, tips are included for students who want to use them. We also discuss using props and demonstrating during a talk.

The online course and classes are designed for children aged 8 - 15. Children below this age may be able to complete the course with help from a sibling or adult or alone if they are academically advanced. For students above 15, see the question below.
-
Of course! The course covers the same content I teach adults during coaching and organisational training. However, I recorded the videos with young students in mind; therefore, I used simplified language, more repetition, and more/less explanation as appropriate. Don't worry—I'm not prancing around like one of the Wiggles!
-
The course has lifetime access, meaning, for the lifetime of the course.
The classes are available for one year from the date of purchase of the course package.
-
Once you purchase the course, you receive access to it. Students work through the modules and video lessons in the order they are presented, with a progress bar showing progression. Students can dip into previously watched modules and lessons at any time. Video lessons have a written summary for quick revision. After completing the course content, practise and rehearsal, students submit a video of them delivering their talk. They will then receive their Certificate of Completion via email.
-
The one-to-one classes are 30-minute, online, face-to-face meetings between Sophie and the student. Parents/guardians are welcome to attend.
Students can use the sessions to gain feedback about presentation delivery, such as their video submission. Alternatively, the sessions can be used for public speaking coaching and to tackle specific communication issues.
It's your choice when to use these sessions, depending on the student's level and when they need additional help or are seeking feedback. When you're ready, let me know, and we can set up a meeting.

When you purchase the course package, you set a password, and your account is formed. After payment, check your email and make any requested verifications or authorisations. When you log in to your account, the course should be available as a digital product.

The course mirrors my in-person public speaking course*, which consists of weekly classes (1 hr, 15 mins) over a school term (8/9 weeks). However, it is designed for students to complete at their own pace.
*Australian-based course, no longer available
I recommend spreading learning over time, completing two to four modules weekly for effective learning. Some students may have an upcoming talk and need to complete the course faster. This is achievable; however, I recommend completing up to two modules in one sitting to allow time to absorb and process information and complete all the activities.
After completing the course, students are expected to practice and rehearse their talk before delivering and recording their video presentation for submission. This practise can take place in the classes with Sophie.
-
After completing the online course, students must submit a video of themselves delivering their talk via email to gain their certificate. I will then review the video and reply with a Certificate of Completion.
-
For as long as the course exists, students can log in and learn, returning as much or as little as they want. 'Lifetime' refers to the lifetime of the course, not the student. I have no plans to withdraw the course, and if/when improvements are made, students can still access the course with the upgrades. Sadly, I'm not invincible and won't be around for eternity; however, I will do my best to keep the course running for as long as possible, knowing its benefits. In the event of course withdrawal, I shall provide access to download the content.

Check your inbox and junk mail, and if you still haven't received your purchase confirmation, let me know.
CLasses
-
An ideal time to start the classes is midway or towards the end of the online course, when students have a script and are beginning to practise delivery. It may be beneficial for some students to join the classes immediately, for example, if they have an upcoming talk at school and have a limited timeframe.
-
The one-to-one classes with Sophie are each 30 minutes in duration.
Students can use the class to practise their talk, ask questions and receive feedback. Sophie will assess their progress and address problem areas.
Students build confidence in performing and in their ability to memorise and deliver a talk.
The classes are designed to be fun and relaxed, creating a safe space for students to learn, experiment, express and enjoy the course.
-
The classes are suitable for all ages and abilities, including adults.
-
After purchasing the course, contact Sophie to arrange a mutually convenient day and time to meet.
You don't need to book all the classes in one go, instead, you can book as and when you are ready.
Ensure you use all the classes within a year from the purchase date.
-
Absolutely! Adults are welcome to take the course and classes package too.
-
Sophie will send a link to an online meeting after arranging the time and date with her. Follow the link to access the meeting.
Alternatively, you are welcome to send Sophie a link, using your favourite video conferencing platform.

Students receive ongoing feedback during classes
-
No. The classes are suitable for all students, including those who are introverted, shy, or have anxiety, issues with confidence, etc. Students who have learning difficulties may need additional support.
I provide an environment where students feel safe to learn and develop. The knowledge and skills learned will be valuable in other areas of their lives, helping them to become better and more confident communicators.
-
Many students are in this position and attend to overcome their fears. It's normal to be scared, and I fully understand how it feels.
My approach with students is always individualised, with no preconceived expectations of confidence or ability. I meet them where they are and guide them towards their potential, helping them develop positive speaking behaviours.
After working with hundreds of children in my public speaking classes, most students are able to overcome their fears and deliver their talks. Their fear doesn't necessarily disappear; however, they can control it, and realising this can bring newfound confidence.
-
I may occasionally run classes in the UK. When available, they will listed on my website.

If your wifi or internet connection is unreliable or too slow, your class connection will be disrupted, and you may be disconnected. You might also have an unstable network if the video freezes or the sound cuts out for long periods.
You can take several steps to have a smoother network connection during the class.
Before the class starts:
Ensure your device battery isn't low.
Use a reliable internet connection. We don't recommend using public wifi hotspots because they can be unreliable.
Close internet pages and apps as they consume bandwidth and can slow your network connection.
Make sure that your device has enough CPU power and memory.
Video conferencing platforms work best with the latest versions of Google Chrome, Safari and Firefox web browsers. Using one of these browsers and keeping it updated will help mitigate connection issues.
During the class:
If you still have problems, log off and return to class. You could also try another device.
